Final Fantasy 16 Motion Blur Guide

Final Fantasy 16 is by no means an ugly game. In fact, it can be astounding from a visual standpoint at times, making its Photo Mode hard to resist. Unfortunately, there are a few things that hold the game back from being an even more impressive-looking game. Right now there are two major problems affecting the game’s visuals. So, let’s break down the issues that Final Fantasy 16 is facing with motion blur and also its frame rate.

Final Fantasy 16: How to turn off Motion Blur

Motion blur is one of the major culprits impacting Final Fantasy 16‘s visuals. Simply put, it’s a rather ugly use of motion blur that makes the game quite hard to play for some people. And for those it doesn’t impact as severely, it’s just an annoying thing to see. Unfortunately, there’s no way to turn off motion blur at this time. There could be an update later down the line that allows you to turn it off. But for now, we can only reduce the issue by changing the Game Performance setting.

Final Fantasy 16 has two performance modes underneath the Graphics Settings. The Graphics option forces the game to prioritize visuals over frame rate, while the Frame Rate option does the opposite. Between the two, if you want less motion blur you need to choose the Frame Rate option. The effect is still quite strong even in this mode, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it is on the higher-quality setting.

This doesn’t fix all of our problems though. The Frame Rate mode is still wildly inconsistent and does not give you a smooth 60 frames per second. And this is even the case after the day one patch slightly improved performance. It’s likely that we’ll get another update within the next few weeks that irons out some of the performance issues. If that’s the case it’d be nice if Square Enix also let us turn motion blur in Final Fantasy 16 off ourselves too. We’ll have to wait and see if either of these improvements comes to the game soon.

Final Fantasy 16 is available on the PlayStation 5.
