Destiny 2: Lightfall has a lot of new loot for you to find. And you’re going to need it to reach the new power level cap. Luckily, you can use a Terminal Overload key in conjunction with an event to be guaranteed some great loot. The downside is that you’ll first have to jump through some hoops before you’re able to get one. But here we’ll tell you exactly how to get a Terminal Overload key in Destiny 2.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – What is a Terminal Overload key?

The Terminal Overload key is an item that’s used to open a chest at the end of the Terminal Overload event. You’ve probably seen this event happen a few times during your time in Neomuna. Since the enemies you fight are high level, you won’t be able to partake in the action easily. But, once you get stronger gear, you’ll be able to join the event and score some good loot. And the Terminal Overload key can net you even better rewards.

How to unlock the keys

Before you can actually get one of these keys, you’ll need to do a couple of things. First, you need to have beaten the Lightfall campaign. This is a prerequisite for a lot of the new content so it should be your priority anyway. Then, after the campaign, you’ll receive a quest called ‘Welcome to the Hall of Heroes.’ Complete this quest and then you’ll get another one called ‘Stargazer.’ This quest introduces Terminal Overload keys and will eventually task you with getting one.

There are four ways to get a Terminal Overload key at this point. While on Neonuma, a Patrol, Public Event, or looting a chest has a small chance of rewarding you with a Terminal Overload key. And after the Stargazer questline, you can grab a Terminal Overload key bounty from Nimbus. Completing this bounty nets you a guaranteed Terminal Overload key.

If you’re on your way to unlocking most of the gear available on Neonuma, then you’ll definitely want to grab these keys. The Terminal Overload event also gives you Strand-based weapons like the Circular Logic machine gun and the Synchronic Roulette submachine gun. So, for those that want to fill out the collection, grabbing these Terminal Overload keys is one of the best things to do in Destiny 2 right now.
